Welcome Back

It has been awhile but I thought getting this blog back up and running would be a way to talk sports this summer.

First topic of discussion to start the summer: Developing young talent at the MLB level

You watch these teams that are already out of it (Indians, Pirates, Royals) bring up some of their best talent in minors to the show. Lets start with the Indians. This team knew going into the season that they had no chance to compete. If this is the case, is it really worth $10 million to sign free agents like Austin Kearns, Russell Branyan and others?

Why not give these young guys a shot to perform and save that money for when you are able to compete in your own division. I understand why GM's want to find "the right time" to bring these guys up but what's wrong with giving a number of young guys 40-50 AB's to see how different the show really is. If they do not experience the road trips, top notch pitching and the pressure, how will they ever succeed at the MLB level.

I feel that these teams settle for the "September Call Ups" to show off their young talent. Lets be honest guys, it is always about the money. Why not generate some revenue for your team that is going nowhere by showcasing your future to the fans throughout the season.

The last thing I want to say about the Indians is this. You have traded for 40 prospects over the past three seasons. There has to be some guys ready to play in the show. Even if it was a Single-A prospect three years ago, they are in AA or AAA. Everybody knows that your best talent is in AA. Give these guys a shot and who knows....maybe a young Albert Pujols is in your system and you don't even know it.

(Keep in mind, Pujols was TOLD that he was only going to be up for a month while Tino Martinez was rehabbing an injury)
